Bible Women: All Their Words and Why They Matter

9/19/2019

Location: Mercer School of Theology

For thousands of years, women in the Bible and their words have been ignored or misinterpreted, yet they have much to teach us.

From 2011-2014, Lindsay Hardin Freeman and her fellow Minnesota based researchers worked to do something never done before: to document every word spoken in the Bible by women.

The resulting book, Bible Women: All Their Words and Why They Matter, made worldwide news.

Join Lindsay as she shares the remarkable voices of Bible women. Learn their stories, hear their words, and step more deeply into God’s sacred circle of mothers, grandmothers, warriors, prophets, prostitutes and murderers.

You won’t come out the same.

Thinking of a new call?

8/21/2019

Dear Friends,

The Fall Transition Ministers Conference (TMC) is coming up soon on September 16th.

TMC is a gathering of the Transitions Officers from 36 Diocese. We present clergy who are looking for a new call and churches that are searching for new clergy. Think Sacred Matchmaking...

If you would like me to present you at TMC I would be happy to. If you would like some help buffing and shining your OTM I’m happy to help with that as well.

If you are thinking about building skills in order to improve your resume in preparation for a different call, let me know so we can bring it here or keep my ears open for a way you can acquire those skills elsewhere.

Let me know if there is any way I can help.

Blessings!

Seeking Your Stories of Trust and Transformation

6/4/2019

Dear Ones,

Faith is like measles, you can only catch it from those that have it. I want to invite all of our clergy to share the nugget of their story(ies) of trusting God and experiencing transformation with all the people of the Long Island Diocese

I am seeking your contribution of one or more meditations for the 151 Days of The Path/La Senda for 2019/20.

Starting September 15 we hope to have meditations available for the 3 eight week series of The Path that goes  September  15, 2019 through May 15, 2020. (If it is possible, we are going to have them translated into Spanish as well. )

As you may recall The Path/La Senda is the story of salvation history. The Path pulls forward the stories and writings that show God’s continual offering of a new life that calls for trust and transformation, and how we respond… or not.

So much of the work that we have ahead of us as Christians, and as a Diocese, calls us to greater levels of trust to be transformed into the church that will serve the changing mission field around us. I want to encourage you to share your stories of faith, of trust and transformation so that we can encourage one another along.

As you may have heard around town:
Roman’s 15:13
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

I ask you to join this gift of faith to our Diocese and complete and send in your meditation by June 30th.

Here are the directions:  You will need a Google account. Set one up, if you have trouble Kris Vieira at the Cathedral of the Incarnation is here to help (kris@incarnationgc.org).

To pick a section of the Path for your meditation download the PDF and choose a section: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1jKcb7jjqW8ipH3JBN_Saj52i1Nfv8Aez/view?usp=sharing

Go here to select the passage(s) of your choice, put your name in the Clergy column on the right:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1EQcG4IgElEtuw03nHWQAjKlMmR2UmZkt7qbybHZHJ-o/edit?usp=sharing

Write your 250 word meditation either directly in the form or cut and paste, and upload your pictures of stained glass windows from your church that illustrate the stories and concepts of The Path/La Senda. To do all this go here:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeepqrxqA2-ToMVgXXj2TyAgBiLi5e31CfOnm_TmHTiXL5iNw/viewform?usp=sf_link

I am hoping you will join me in creating this gift to the people we love in Long Island and share the riches that God has so generously showered upon us.  This is us writing to our people, building up the love and faith of our life and ministry together.

If you have questions, call me!

Blessings!

Renewal Works 2019-2020

5/10/2019

Dear Friends,

I have spoken to many of you directly about doing Renewal Works in 2019/2020. Some of you I just have an inkling it might be a good time to do this great process for your congregation. Before your Vestry scatters for the Summer, now is the time to get them on board for doing Renewal Work launching either in September 2019 or January 2020.

The dates are :

Upcoming RenewalWorks:

September 15,  2019 (sign up by August 4, 2019)

January 26, 2020 (sign up by December 6, 2019)

To share more with your Vestry, send them the Renewal Works link prior to your next meeting. http://renewalworks.org/

To recap the basics:

Approximately 4 – 6 month process that yields a heightened awareness and personal commitment to spiritual growth as the foundation for congregational development.

Requires:

Congregation members take a ½ hour online Spiritual Life Inventory that yields a snapshot of the spiritual practices of your community as it is right now, and reveals the greatest areas of potential growth.

A team of 9 or more members (including clergy) to be the focus group for the four conversations. A lay facilitator of the meetings, and an administrator/logistics person on team.

Four meetings lasting 1 ½ to 2 hours, at your church, on your schedule on the four topics: Where have we been, Where are we now, Where do we want to go, How will we get there.

Two meetings at the Diocese to begin with an orientation, and to end the process with a group sharing of what they have learned and possible synergies in God’s call.

The program costs $500. There is some assistance available if congregations find it necessary.

I can’t tell you how much value the congregations that have done Renewal Works are finding in their clarity and capacity in planning and carrying out a revived sense of mission and ministry for their congregations.

As you may have heard, all the programming, speakers, and trainings I am doing revolve around the Renewal Works process and are all integrated and mutually supportive. It’s a beautiful thing to have structure and progression in your development!

Please go ahead and register! Let me know that you have done so and put Tuesday September 10th at 6:30 or Tuesday January 21 on your calendar for thel kick-off celebrations and Renewal Works orientation for the Fall  or Winter congregational teams.

Praying you will join in the journey!

Blessings!

Participants have completed a two-year course in developing their leadership skills in a program that helps clergy and lay leaders transform their congregations by making them stronger, healthier, more deeply rooted in Anglican Spirituality, more responsive to God and more effective in their communities.

These participants have worked on projects that included implementing a communication and tracking database, developing a Christian Formation program for adults and children, incorporating the arts, particularly liturgical dance into worship, expanding the parish’s web presence, and delivering a program recognizing black scientists for Black History Month.

This year’s graduates include:

The Rev. Canon Richard Visconti, Mark LaSorsa, and Bruce Cash from Caroline Church, Setauket.

Jastina Carter from St. Albans, St. Albans.

The Rev. Dr. Carver Israel and Adrian Simmons from St. Philips, Brooklyn.

The Rev. Eddie Alleyne, Carmen Lloyd, and Jacqueline Mason from Church of the Advent, Westbury.

Lisa Chiara and Sarah Hughes from Church of the Ascension, Rockville Center.
